Collage Earth Day Promotion

Dry Clean City of Vestavia Hills celebrates Earth Day by partnering with Collage Designer Consignment to recycle wire clothing hangers. Help us recycle by supporting this worthy cause.

Collage Invites You to Celebrate Earth Day and Help Save the Earth in 2 Easy Ways:

Shop Green and Recycle Your Wardrobe (and your hangers)

Collage Designer Consignment encourages Alabamians to join the national trend toward ‘green’ shopping by celebrating the 43th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22 by shopping ‘green’  and recycling their wardrobes at consignment stores.  Collage is celebrating Earth Day all week long (April 22 – 27) in two ways:

1 – Collecting wire hangers (bundled in groups of 20 w/no cardboard hangers) at both the Homewood and Vestavia Collage locations to be recycled at Dry Clean City in Vestavia Hills.

2 – Giving a $5.00 shopping incentive to first-time consignors who consign at least 5 items of clothing that Collage is able to accept for resale.  Shoppers who say ‘Green Shopping’ at the register will also get the shopping incentive.

Birmingham, AL- ‘Green’ shopping at consignment stores and resale shops keeps clothing out of landfills, supports small businesses, creates jobs and provides a way to actually get a return out of the clothes, furniture, accessories and sporting goods that consumers no longer wear or use.  It is a win-win-win for the shopper, the business and the environment.

Just the Facts

·         According to the most recently released figures from the EPA, in 2010 Americans discarded 13.1 million tons of textiles. Only 15 percent of which was reclaimed for recycling, while more than 11 million tons of textiles were dumped in landfills across the country

·         Every day in the US an estimated 15.5 million plastic, wire and wood hangers are dumped into landfills—every day!  Worldwide an estimated 8 billion hangers goes into landfills every year. That’s enough to fill 4.6 Empire State Buildings from basement to observation deck—every year!

  • Putting a pair of old jeans back into use rather than in the dump can save valuable resources. One company estimated that it takes as much as 8,000 liters of water to grow the cotton used for just one pair of jeans.

Collage Designer Consignment Owner, Tracy True Dismukes, has been at the forefront of the trend toward green shopping.  “Earth Day is the perfect opportunity promote consignment shopping to those consumers who are looking for additional ways to be green and conserve the Earth’s resources”, said Dismukes.  Dismukes also said that she has seen a surge of environmentally-conscious consumers turn to consignment shopping as a great way to help save the planet while saving money and getting fabulous fashionsand other goods at reasonable prices.

Dismukes is the owner of the Collage Designer Consignment shops in Homewood and Vestavia Hills, Alabama.  As part of Collage’s Earth Day celebration, the store will be collecting wire coat hangers bundled in groups of 20 (with no cardboard hangers) to be recycled at Dry Clean City in Vestavia Hills.

Collage is in it’s 21st year of offering high-end recycled fashion at value prices in two prime locations: ‘On the Curve’ in Downtown Homewood and at the Vestavia City Center next to Panera Bread.  Dismukes is a founding member of ARI, the Association for Resale Innovation, Past-President of NARTS, the National Association of Resale and Thrift Stores and is Host of Collage TV, a weekly video style ‘how-to’ series.
