Dear Dry Clean City Valued Customer,
Shirt Button Replacement Tips
1) If your buttons keep coming off try using white dental floss to sew the buttons on instead of thread. You will need a larger sized sewing needle, but dental floss is much stronger than thread and if used correctly will not come loose.
2) If you can’t find a good match for your missing shirt button, try moving the bottom button on the shirt to the missing button location. then sew the mismatched button to the bottom location. Shirt tails are often tucked in, so no one will notice the mismatched button.
3) If you have multiple buttons that are broken, chipped, or cracked, you may need to replace all of the buttons. Top quality shirt buttons are inexpensive and can be found at your local fabric store, or Walmart.
4) Replacing a button is often an unexpected chore that catches you when you are in a hurry. You can save time and frustration by having a sewing needle pre-threaded and ready to go. Also, if you are a business traveler, you may want to travel with a sewing kit and extra shirt buttons.
Does Dry Cleaning Solvent, Perc, Cause Cancer?
First of all, we use the environmentally friendly dry cleaning solvent, Hydrocarbon. It causes no harm to you or the environment.
There has been a lot of negative publicity the past several years about the dry cleaning solvent, perchloroethylene (perc). Perc solvent has been the most popular dry clean solvent in most dry cleaners for over 50 years.
Extremely high levels of perc have been proven to be toxic to humans and can cause effects on the nervous system, liver, and kidneys. Most dry cleaners that use perc will claim that it is safe, because it has not been proven to cause cancer in humans. They will also tell you that careful scientific examination of claims show that it was the unique characteristics of rodents and the very high exposures to perc that led to their cancers, and that the results of such laboratory animal studies do not apply to humans.
Tests are currently inconclusive, but do you want to take the chance of getting cancer later?
