Dear Dry Clean City Valued Customer,
The recent tornado disaster has given many of us a wake up call and made us realize just how fortunate we are. The devastation caused by last week’s storms are making life very difficult for many people and we want to do all that we can to help. We are donating 10% of our proceeds Wednesday May 4th & Wednesday May 11th to tornado relief. Holly & I have also taken non perishable food and personal care items to the tornado relief drop off at the Chelsea Fire Department . We encourage all of you to think about others in this very difficult time in their lives.
Many of you may not realize that we offer special wholesale pricing for charities that are helping people in need. If you know of a charity that is helping tornado victims that may be in need of having their clothes cleaned, please have them contact us. Every situation is a little different, but we will help them in their charitable effort.
Can you reverse shrinkage in clothes?
Sometimes it is possible to reverse shrinkage in clothes. It all depends on the garment’s fabric. Some fabrics are easier to reverse shrink than others, but with all garments the goal is to relax the fibers.
To, “dry clean only garments”, applying steam is the most effective method to relax the fibers. There is a process known as “blocking” that can restore a garment to it’s desired shape by repeatedly steaming and stretching the garment until it’s desired shape is reached.
Some fabrics , such as knits, are notorious for stretching out of shape. All knits have shape and size distortion when both wearing and cleaning.
For fabrics that can safely be washed in water, such as cotton, soaking the garment in white vinegar for an hour and then washing in hot water will often do the trick. If that doesn’t work, try hand stretching the wet fabric until it reaches the desired size, then allow it to dry flat using heavy objects to hold the edges in place. (Make sure the heavy objects will not bleed dye on your wet garment).
Be careful when stretching your clothes ! If you stretch the fabric using too much force it will rip.
RECYCLE!
Bring us your excess wire hangers and we will recycle every one that we can. Let’s all work together to keep as many wire hangers out of our landfills as possible.
